THE warring roses of Sydney's social set - Downing Centre darlings Ruby and Roxy Jacenko - began sparring after taking sides in their parents' prickly separation earlier this year.

While younger sibling Ruby sided with her mother in the split, putting her at odds with her businessman father, who bankrolled her sister Roxy's PR business, it's Ruby's choice of friends and supporters, including convicted drug dealer Simon Main, that raised eyebrows yesterday.

With Ruby facing possible assault charges after allegedly punching her sister twice at a Kings Cross party on April 23, it was left to her criminal defence lawyer Daniel Hakim to explain his client's links to escort agency owner Main.

Despite claims the jailbird stepson of Barry Crocker was at the Downing Centre on Tuesday to support the 18-year-old private school girl in her AVO hearing, Mr Hakim said Main was attending to his own AVO matter "and met Ruby by happenstance".

A receptionist at Main's agency, Prive, in Kings Cross, denied the pair had a romantic history, stating: "It's bulls..t they are dating. He saw her for the first time in a year yesterday."

Friends of Jacenko said she is "infatuated" with Main, who is regarded as being smitten by the HSC student.

Mr Hakim, meanwhile, held out hope of a reconciliation, saying:

"There's no such thing as The Brady Bunch. The estrangement is a possibility for the moment but not a determination of the future."
